Picking Your Elopement Wedding Dress | What to Wear to Elope

The Ultimate Guide to Elopement Wedding Dresses

How To Choose a dress for your Elopement

  1. The Size of your Dress

The first consideration is the size, mobility, and ability to pack your dress for your journey! If you’re traveling from out of state, car space may be limited, dresses like a ball gown may not be feasible, and certain fabrics may wrinkle and wither on the drive, resulting in a disappointing scramble to revive on arrival to Gatlinburg. You may want to invest in a handheld steamer to have handy at your cabin for wrinkle touchups.

If you’re planning on hiking at all, you’ll want something you can either wear easily while hiking, or something that travels well and can withstand the hike. We suggest bringing a garment bag, folding your wedding dress with LOTS of tender, loving care, and strapping it to the outside of your backpack for a hike. Many of our locations require NO hiking, so if a ball gown is the dress of our dreams, you may opt for one of those spots.

  2. The Fabric of Your Dress

Type of fabric is a key choice when choosing your elopement dress! Different fabrics hang and flow differently, give off different vibes, are more durable and some photograph better than others

Chiffon, organza, and tulle are light, airy, traditional fabrics that flow beautifully. They photograph beautifully and give a very traditional look to your elopement dress. As an added bonus, they’re also very cool for warm climates, like our Smoky Mountain summers. The breeze picks up these fabrics easily for an airy, floaty look.

Silk, polyester, and satin are heavier fabrics with amazing shine and texture! They’re very flattering to most body types. Being a heavier fabric, they tend to be a little warmer and may be better suited to fall, winter, and early spring Elopements in Gatlinburg. They are also on the more durable side if you want something that can take a beating

Lace is my personal favorite elopement dress material. It can be structured or flowy and lends soft, boho, romantic vibes to your your wedding day. Also, it’s hard to wrinkle, let me say that again. It DOESNT wrinkle!

  3. The Style of Your Dress

If you’ve been dress shopping at al you, you know that there’s as many styles as the day is long. While some styles are better suited for elopements, the sky really is the limit when it comes to your elopement dress.

Our personal favorite styles are A-line, Fit-and-Flares- and Sheath if you plan to do any real moving around or hiking. However, if you’re changing into your dress for your ceremony, then any style is the best style! If you plan to wear a ball-gown or mermaid style dress, let us know and we can plan a ceremony without a hike at all.
