What Happens if it Rains on My Elopement Day?

Gatlinburg Elopements

Refreshing the forecast over and over again, obsessing for weeks over the chance of rain? We get it, totally! No one WANTS it to rain on their elopement day. We’re right there with you analyzing the weather for our brides and crossing our fingers for the best outcome!

First off, don’t panic over our forecast here in east Tennessee, it’s rarely correct until maybe the day before. A week to a few days out, the rain chances can go from 50%- to 90% to 20% in the span of two days. There’s no reason to give it a second thought until the day before.

The show must go on…. Unfortunately, rain is always a risk with outdoor events. Trust me, if I could control it, it would never rain on our elopements! As long as it’s not a downpour, our elopements go forward as planned, with the addition of super cute clear umbrellas that we bring along (just in case).

About half the time, it rains before or after the ceremony and we luck out! Rainy days are the most beautiful in the mountains. The colors are richer and you get that smoke on the mountains we’re so well know for! That picture below? It POURED JUST before their ceremony, and just look at the results!

Other times,

it rains and we have to break out those umbrellas! Rain on your wedding day is good luck after all! Those make for some of my favorite images, you’ll see why in the samples below.

If the rain is heavy…

then we have the option of a covered bridge in the area. They’re quaint little wooded bridges that’ll keep you dry on your big day!

The Final Option

Is to move the ceremony to your cabin. This will probably mean a time adjustment due to different travel times, etc. Cabin ceremonies can be beautiful affairs and a cozy cabin wedding can keep you and your guests warm and dry.
